First let me tell you Solitaire Siege is a really fun game & I really enjoy it. That being said, you have some serious bugs in this app...

There seems to be a memory leak or some other coding issue with the app & the rest of the iphone's functions. I have an original iphone 2g. Anytime I turn off the device when the app is running it causes the iphone to become very unresponsive when turning back on. Basically, the slide to unlock & entering you pin number is very slow (sometimes causing a crash or need for a reboot). Second, the app gets very slow as you progress through the levels. Third the app crashes frequently between levels or when I receive a txt message. Fourth, the app will not go past level 61. Finally, this app is a huge drain on the battery & makes the iphone very warm (which leads me to the processor/mem leak)... For a non 3d game that seems a bit odd.

All that being said, I didn't pay for the game as it was free when I downloaded it, so I can't complain too much. But, if I did pay for it, I would be pissed... The funny thing is I still continue to play the game. I do actually enjoy the strategy & game play. I would gladly pay for this app or a new version if it worked correctly. Anything you can do to help?

Normal Price is ($2) / (£1.17)
Full Version
Lite Version

Sauce Lifter:
I’ve seen this game a round for a while now, but never really paid that much attention to it as it looked a bit dull, was over the instant $1 give it a try (you’ve got nothing to lose) mark and didn’t have a lite version at the time. Well it’s definitely not a dull game and when your actually playing it, it’s actually a really nice little game to look at (it has a real ST / Amiga feel to it).
Basically it’s an updated version of Chop Lifter (an old 80’s game which I never thought that much about). In the original version you controlled a helicopter and had to rescue hostages from behind enemy lines, while taking out various gun en-placements, tanks and jet planes. Well in this version you control a UFO who’s job it is, is too blow up various bunkers / hangers to release the captive aliens and then collect then in your flying saucer and drop them off at the pick up / teleporter site, all the while dodging tank fire and various other attacks from gun turrets, homing missiles, and various other flying enemies.
You can tell that there’s been a lot of care been put in this game as there’s lots of really nice little touches through out the game from simple little things like sparks coming off your saucer when you try to land to fast / too step an angle and you go bouncing along the ground. To little thoughtful game play elements such as when you land, the game screen zooms out so you can see what’s heading your way (which really helps the player out). The sound is also really nice in this game and really helps to give it a retro sci-fi feel to the game.

There is a bit of a learning curve to the game as it runs pretty fast (and very smooth) so expect to die pretty quickly at first until you get used to the sensitivity of the controls, but once you do, you will be amazed at how much control you do have over your little UFO.
I really like this game and it ticks all the boxes for me.
It looks nice when you are playing it.
The games don’t last too long so you can easily get a game in while your waiting for the bus and it stores your game from where you left off if you do need to stop halfway through a game.
It’s a game you will keep on coming back to just for a quick go for a long time.
The controls are very smooth and responsive and if you die, you actually feel like it was your fault.
It has a nice atmosphere to the whole game.
At the moment, it’s also on sale for $1 (normal price been $2), and even at $2 it’s well worth the asking price.
Graphics:
While the game is nothing to look at from the screen shots, once you see it in action, you will like it. Everything is done in shaded polys to help give it a nice ST / Amiga look and feel to it and with it been 3D, when it zooms in and out, everything is nice and smooth. I also like all the nice little effects in the game such as your saucer bouncing along the ground with sparks coming off and the way the legs slowly come out of the UFO for it to land.
Audio:
I’m normally not one for having the audio on while playing iPhone games, but I really do like the audio in this game as it really does give it a lot of atmosphere with it’s 50’s B style sci-fi effects.
Control:
The control system is really good once you get the hang of it. I’m not a huge fan of tilting controls for most game, but it works really well for this game and the controls are really responsive which help the game a huge amount. The only thing I’m not totally keen about is the way you point to fire the weapons, as some times, my fat fingers cover up a fast incoming jet plane, but that’s my only concern with the game (you do have a radar at the bottom of the screen to warn you of what’s coming).
Replay:
It’s one of those games that you will play a lot at first and then keep coming back to for a quick five minutes for a relaxing blast.
Overall: 92%
I really do enjoy this game and everything just seems to fall into place when you are playing the game. There’s a lot of atmosphere in the game and if you like retro style games, your going to love this game and while it’s still on sale, you’ll be mad not to get it.

*Sorry for the poor screen shots, but every time I went to take a screen grab, I got blown up

Vanguard Storm:
Vanguard Storm is another game in the Crystal Defenders series of games from Square Enix.
It’s a really nice little game where you have to try to stop the various armies of monsters from making it across the screen to the other side. This is done by moving your team into various positions on your half of the board, so that you can attack them and remove them from the board (if you do enough damage that is).
Each one of your team has different style of attack and weaknesses, so it’s important to learn the strengths and weaknesses and how to team up the characters to maximum effect. For example you start off with a fighter that can only attack monsters that are in front of him (up, middle and down from him), which also mean that if a monster is stood directly in front of him, he’s going to take damage as well, so you try to attack monsters that are above and below him so you don’t take damage. Others (mages) can attack four squares in front of them (which also pass through monsters, so the attack is not blocked) and so on.
They are also different styles of attack (physical and magical attacks) and land / air based attacks that the various team members can do and you need to think about the make up of your team depending on what monsters are attacking. So basically, your trying to move your characters around in such a way that you can cause as much damage as possible with out getting slapped back my the monsters and you need to try to have a range of characters that can complement each other to make the overall team stronger.
The game is turned based, but the time you have to make your moves slowly start to decrease as you progress through the stages, so it really can start to get a bit frantic later on. It’s actually a pretty simple game to get into, but it definitely feels like it will be a game I will keep playing as it’s one of those types of games that has a hand full of nice simple rules, but when they are layered together produce a pretty deep game, yet easy to play.

Graphics:
Graphically, it’s nothing flashy and the graphics look like the graphics from Crystal Defenders, which is fine by me as I like the SNES style graphics, but they work well and at the small pixel size you are not going to get much better anyway.
Audio:
Audio wise, I’m not overly keen on to be honest. The background tunes were starting to annoy me after a short while, but for most iPhone games, I tend to play without sound anyway as other people are normally near me and it’s a bit impolite to have music blasting out in public.
Control:
The controls are nice and easy to use as it’s mainly just a case of dragging your characters around the screen into better positions for the next part of the attack. I didn’t make any mistakes while playing the game and it does start to get fairly fast in later levels.
Replay:
I’m not sure how much replay value you will get out of the game, but I think the game will last you a few hours anyway (which I think is worth the asking price) and I would expect a couple of updates from Square / Enix later on as that seems to be the norm with APPS. The only real replay value at the moment is going for high scores.
Overall: 89%
Overall, I really liked this game a lot. It’s simple to get into, yet the game play is deep enough to allow you to try different tactics during play. The first few levels teach you the basics of the game really well and then starts to mount the pressure on to the player. It looks and sounds okay and isn’t too expensive (there’s a lite version to try).
I would have liked to have seen a bit more of an RPG experience from the game. This is from the people that make the Final Fantasy games after all. Something along the lines of been able to select your starting line up from a roster of characters. Been able to equip objects to the characters to enhance their stats would also be nice and to actually see some real differences from the characters getting levelled up. I think that would really add an extra level of depth to the game, but as it stands, it’s still a great game.

Hello,
Just a quick explanation on what this part of the forum is for:
Because I’ve bought a LOT of APPS (mainly games) off the iTunes store and been burnt by how poor some of the games have been, even after reading reviews for them. I’ve decided to knock up a couple of reviews myself of games that I have bought and played.
It’s important to keep in mind that, like with any review, it’s my own personal opinion of the game, and your idea of a good game could well be different from my own so use your common sense and please don’t go flaming me because my view is different from yours.
With the above in mind, I like simple, quick and fun games that I can pick up and play and then leave for a few days and play again. I don’t have the time in my life to spend 10-20+ hours with a game any more. I like old style (retro) games as I grew up with that style of game and they slot into my available free time.
I guess I spend most of my time playing the games during my lunch break or if I’m hanging around waiting, so if I do spend a couple of hours on a game, it’s because I’m really enjoying it, which is always a good sign for a game.
Of course, feel free to leave comments on the game / review and if you want to do your own, e-mail me and I’m sure we can sort something out.

Hello,
So, have you had a chance to play the GoGo Digger beta yet (check out the GoGo Digger page for download details)?
What did you think of the game, come on now don’t be shy?
Did the first level help make the game idea click into place for you as I know it is pretty hard to explain how to play the game within a couple of short sentences, so the easiest way seems to be allowing the player to see all the objects in the first level so the player can work out the relationship with the land mines and the numbers that appear.
Did any one find any bugs or strange problems while playing?
If people could leave feed back before next Friday please as if I don’t hear anything, I’ll assume everything is ok with it and I will release the final build for the game.
Thanks,

As you know, we are working on a arcade style word spelling style game and there’s the possibility of converting it to several different formats.
So what I would like to know is what format you would be interested in seeing the game on. I realize it’s hard to say with out playing the game first, but if you could just pick from the formats below, which formats you own and buy games on, it would be a big help.

Thanks,

So we have finally started to get the site up and running and there’s a steady flow of new visitors coming here (which is nice :D).

So what we would like to know is:
1) What do you want to see on the site?
2) What do you like about the site?
3) What you don’t like about the site?

If you can leave us any feed back and we will try our best to improve the site for you.

Thanks,
